Budget-Friendly Wedding Tips for Non-Traditional Couples

Planning a wedding can be an exciting but daunting task for any couple, especially when trying to stick to a budget. For non-traditional couples looking to tie the knot without breaking the bank, there are plenty of ways to have a beautiful and memorable wedding day without overspending. Here are some budget-friendly wedding tips for non-traditional couples:

  1. Choose a Non-Traditional Venue: Think outside the box when it comes to your wedding venue. Non-traditional venues like state parks, botanical gardens, pavilions, downtown stages, local libraries, or even a family member’s backyard can create a truly memorable backdrop for your day. Not only are these locations often more budget-friendly, but they also bring a unique charm that reflects your personality as a couple.

Plus, many of these venues are now offering their own décor! This can be a great way to save money, allowing you to use their props and decor elements without adding rental costs to your budget. A little creativity with your venue choice can go a long way in making your wedding both beautiful and affordable!

  2. DIY Decorations: Get creative and make your own wedding decorations. From centerpieces to signage, DIY decor can not only save you money but also add a personal touch to your wedding day. Plus, it can be a fun project to do together as a couple or with family and friends. Psstt...faux florals are in and several sites have extremely reasonable options!

  3. Go Digital: Save on stationery and postage costs by opting for digital wedding invitations. Plenty of websites offer beautiful and customizable e-vites that can save you time, money, and your sanity! Plus, it's a more eco-friendly option!

I used this option when I got married a few years ago. We printed 25 beautiful invitations for family and those we knew weren't keen on the digital option and used the app for everyone else! It was great being able to get RSVPs so quickly!

  4. Skip the Sit-Down Dinner: Instead of a traditional sit-down dinner, consider alternative catering options such as food trucks, a buffet-style meal, or even a potluck reception. Non-traditional catering can be more budget-friendly and can add a fun and casual element to your wedding day.

One of my clients most opted for dinners is a pizza bar! At first, they aren't sure what to think...it's becoming a trend y'all! Check out your local pizza options for pricing (I highly recomend delivery) and don't be afraid to order beyond pepperoni or cheese. The key is to NOT serve it in the boxes! You can find inexpensive platters (Dollar Tree has some) or if you want to escalate your presentation you can get pizza plate stands/ risers. Decorate your buffet in your theme and your guests will never know the difference! 100% of my clients have been impressed!

  5. Forego the Favors: Wedding favors have been a popular way to show appreciation to guests, but many couples are rethinking them in favor of simplicity and budget. Often, wedding favors are left behind or go unused because they may not fit guests’ tastes or daily needs. And the good news? Most guests won’t even notice they’re missing!

If you still want to include something thoughtful without breaking the bank, there’s an easy, budget-friendly idea: personalized candy bags. Recently, I saw a clever take where the couple gifted two small bags of candy, labeled “His Favorite” and “Her Favorite.” The best part? Buying candy after major holidays can get you discounts of up to 50% off, keeping the cost low.

Whether you skip the favors entirely or choose a simple, affordable treat, remember that the day is about your love and celebration!

Planning a wedding on a budget doesn’t mean sacrificing style or personality. From choosing non-traditional venues like state parks or family backyards to considering out-of-the-box dinner ideas, there are countless ways to make your big day special without breaking the bank. With a little creativity, you can find unique options that reflect your style and keep costs down!
